Another Place, Another Time Workshop at The Atkinson.

The Atkinson Learning suite over-looking Southport's Lord Street was the venue for the Another Place, Another Time Workshop today.

The workshop team drew inspiration from Antony Gormley's powerfully evocative ink paintings which are currently on show at the Atkinson Gallery in the Elemental Exhibition, in terms of experimentation with loose and fluid watercolour techniques.

Local coastal flora and fauna were the focus of the day and a great variety of fauna, flowers,
berries, grasses and autumnal foliage was spread on the tables ready to be selected for drawing.

The paintings created in the workshop featured washes of watercolour and vibrant inks with detail was added using the marvellous 'TomBow' pens which explode with colour when mixed with water.

Below is a selection of images from the day and the work produced.

The plan - to create watercolours works on paper that could be scanned and printed onto silk and organza A4 sheets which can also be layered and embroidered if required.
We also looked at the advantages of sending digital images for printing onto commercial products through websites such as RedBubble where a variety of custom printed items can be purchased.

I also passed around some of my recent watercolours and shared my love of
Vincent Van Gogh's drawings and wonderful abstract water colours
by New York's Jen Garrido.

By the end of the day each of us printed a couple of gossamer sheets of organza
featuring the drawings from the workshop.
It was a fun creative, day, relaxing, chatting, listening to music and being playful with our paintings,
experimenting with colour, materials and abstract interpretations from the foliage of the coast.
The Atkinson was a great venue, providing a tasty lunch in the deli on the ground floor and pleanty of cups of tea throughout the day, which was over all too soon :)

Thanks very much to Danielle Clark of the Atkinson for organising the event, to Janet our Atkinson Guide and Matt Dodd, our health and safety expert. Also, big thanks to Carleen, Alison, Mary, Jenny, Paul and Barbara for joining me on the day, it wouldn't have been fun without you!
